Included in the programme was Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, probably the ultimate source of all concerti. The work’s heavenly lyricism comes across even more strongly in this live experience.  Despite being one of Mozart’s most loyal followers, Schubert had for once sought inspiration elsewhere. He composed his overture ‘In the Italian Style’ in a flurry of veneration for his Italian contemporary Rossini.  With his Ninth Symphony, the Czech composer Dvorák made his triumphant entrance in the United States. The merging of the Romantic symphonic tradition with American vernacular music resulted in the work’s evocative sobriquet ‘From the New World’. An absolute must for connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike.
